It’s Official: A Super Mario Galaxy Movie Is Coming!
You might have heard the rumors yesterday, but now it's confirmed. Nintendo just dropped the first trailer and release dates for a brand-new Super Mario Bros. movie based on one of our favorite games.
Nintendo kicked off its September 2025 Nintendo Direct with a big announcement: the new Super Mario Bros. movie, officially titled Super Mario Galaxy the film.
This confirms all those rumors that were flying around yesterday on the internet, which said Nintendo was actually going to adapt their classic 2007 intergalactic platformer from the Wii into a movie. The film is set to hit theaters in France on April 1, 2026, then in the U.S. on April 3, and Japan on April 24, 2026. The first teaser for the project showed a few short clips before revealing the official title and logo.
There were a bunch of other announcements too, all part of Mario's 40th anniversary celebration. They're dropping a bundle that includes Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2, a new game called Mario Tennis Fever, a brand-new Yoshi game, and a Super Mario Wonder - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition (+ a talking Piranha Plant toy!). Plus, they're opening an exclusive exhibit at the Nintendo Museum and even sponsoring the Kyoto Marathon in 2026.
