Forget the PS5! ‘Ghost of Yotei’ Gameplay Will Blow Your Mind with Next-Level Visuals

A Visual Treat: The PlayStation 5 Exclusive You've Been Waiting For

With just over a month left until its highly anticipated release, Ghost of Yotei from developer Sucker Punch just gave us another reason to be excited. A new trailer was revealed during Gamescom 2025's Opening Night Live, and it's nothing short of magnificent. Blending breathtaking cinematics with actual gameplay, the trailer showcases a game with impeccable polish, incredible animations, and truly impressive graphics. The particle effects are a feast for the eyes—whether it's a horse galloping through a field of flowers or the protagonist, Atsu, sliding down a gravelly slope. Even the dynamic bloodstains left on the snow during combat look fantastic.

The First True Next-Gen Game from Sucker Punch

In a generation that, since its launch in 2020, has been dominated by cross-gen titles and remakes, it's refreshing to see a brand-new PlayStation 5 exclusive. Especially when it's the successor to Ghost of Tsushima, a game that was a standout hit at the end of the PS4 era. While it's not a direct sequel, this new entry in the series maintains the same artistic direction and core gameplay—an open-world action-adventure with a strong narrative.

The story takes place 329 years and over 1,300 kilometers away from the original, set in the year 1603 on the island of Hokkaido. The trailer also confirmed that a multiplayer mode, Ghost of Yotei: Legends, will be released at a later date in 2026, similar to how it was done with Ghost of Tsushima.

Gameplay That Will Make You Drool

While the core gameplay of Ghost of Yotei builds on the foundations of its predecessor, it's far from a simple rehash. This time, players can switch between different weapons to vary their combat style. Beyond the traditional katana, Atsu's arsenal will include kusarigamas, odachis, and other classic Japanese weapons. You can also call upon her loyal wolf companion to assist you in combat. Additionally, the trailer hints at new features like the ability to camp and cook, which hopefully will be as detailed and immersive as the food preparation in games like Monster Hunter Wilds.

Ghost of Yotei is set to release on October 2nd, exclusively for the PlayStation 5.
