Rockstar is going all in on GTA 6. The company just called their new game "the biggest launch in video game history" in a job ad. Let's talk about what that really means and why everyone's losing their minds over it.

Rockstar has some serious expectations for GTA 6. The developer actually called their next big project "the most important launch in video game history."

This statement, which not many people would argue with, was found in a job listing on Rockstar's website. The company is looking for a lead software engineer to make sure the GTA 6 launch goes smoothly next year.

The person who gets the job will work with "some of the most talented people in the industry," the company said, and will help build the data platform behind this future blockbuster.

"With the continued growth of Grand Theft Auto Online and the upcoming release of Grand Theft Auto 6, the successful candidate will lead the evolution and operation of the data platform that will support what will be the biggest game launch in history," Rockstar wrote, "ensuring it scales to deliver an exceptional experience to millions of players worldwide."

As of right now, that paragraph isn't in the most recent version of the job listing (which was first spotted on social media by TheGTABase). But IGN can confirm that it was there before after checking an older, archived version of the page.

It's not clear what Rockstar means by calling GTA 6 the "most important game launch." Are they talking about how much money it will make, or how many players will jump in on day one? Either way, the analysis firm Ampere had previously guessed that GTA 6's impact on the video game industry would be around $2.7 billion.

Set to come out in just eight months, GTA 6 will be the first new game in Rockstar's hit series in over a decade. So, the demand for a new Grand Theft Auto is at an all-time high since GTA 5 came out on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 back in 2013.

The latest GTA 6 trailer gave us a lot more details about the game, including its two main characters, Jason and Lucia, before finally announcing a release date of May 26, 2026. Still, a lot of the game remains a mystery.

So far, Rockstar hasn't shared any information about the GTA Online version of GTA 6, which the new lead software engineer will be working on by directing the development of its servers. It remains to be seen if the new GTA Online will come out on the same day as the main GTA 6 campaign, that is, if the project doesn't get delayed again between now and then.

In any case, when GTA 6 does come out, it's pretty clear that no other developer will want to release their game anywhere near Rockstar's title. Earlier this month, Nate Fox, the director of Ghost of Yotei, even said that the news of GTA 6's latest delay this year made a lot of people at Sucker Punch happy because it gave their game a clear path for the holidays. "We're all still hungover, a hangover that has lasted for several months," Fox said. "It was a great day."

While we wait for May 26, could the GTA 6 launch still get delayed? Strauss Zelnick, the CEO of Take-Two, Rockstar's parent company, had previously told IGN: "When we set a specific date, we generally stick to it very well." Now let's hope Rockstar finds someone for that famous job quickly.
