Pokemon GO Accidentally Reveals Upcoming Legendary Dynamax Raids

Pokemon GO has accidentally announced the arrival of Dynamax Raids featuring Moltres, Zapdos, and Articuno, set to launch in late January. While Dynamax Pokemon made their debut in the game back in September 2024, this will mark the first time players can encounter Dynamax legendaries.

The three legendary birds from Kanto have always been beloved by fans in the Pokémon community. Because of this, Pokémon GO introduced Moltres, Zapdos, and Articuno into raids during the game’s early days, including their Shiny variants. In 2023, the Galarian bird trio made their debut in Daily Incense spawns, although they appear less frequently than regular Pokémon. Starting in October 2024, players can also find Shiny versions of the Galarian legendary birds. It looks like Pokémon GO is gearing up to introduce another version of the Kanto birds soon, based on a now-removed official announcement.

A Reddit user named nintendo101 noticed a tweet from the official Pokemon GO Saudi Arabia account announcing that Moltres, Zapdos, and Articuno will be featured in Dynamax Raids from January 20 to February 3. However, the tweet was quickly removed, suggesting that the developers might not have been ready to share this information yet. If this leak is accurate, the inclusion of these legendary birds in Dynamax Raids could boost interest in Max Battles, especially since some players have been steering clear of Max Raids.

Adding the Dynamax bird trio could lead to an influx of legendary Pokémon in Max Raids soon. Pokémon Sword and Shield featured Dynamax forms for well-known legends like Mewtwo and Ho-Oh, suggesting that Pokémon GO might also introduce similar options. That said, it’s not clear if these legendary Max Raids will be tougher than the existing ones. Earlier this month, players voiced their concerns about the difficulty of Max Raids, especially when trying to assemble 40 players for each encounter. We’ll have to wait and see if these issues will crop up again with the Dynamax legendaries.

Pokemon GO is starting 2025 with a bang, announcing a series of exciting events! Niantic has revealed that Ralts will be the star of the upcoming Community Day Classic on January 25. Additionally, mark your calendars for January 19, as there will be a new Shadow Raid Day featuring Shadow Ho-Oh, where players can snag up to seven free Raid Passes from Gyms. Plus, the developers have shared the host cities for Pokemon GO Fest 2025: Osaka, Jersey City, and Paris!
