Splatoon 3 Concludes Its Final Splatfest: What Lies Ahead

Fans of Splatoon 3 have long speculated, and it has now been officially confirmed that the Grand Festival marks the finale of the game’s Splatfests, signaling a halt to regular updates.

Over the weekend, a spectacular Grand Festival took place, which served as a culmination of two years of Splatfests. The official North America Splatoon Twitter account recently announced that while routine updates will be discontinued, it does not signify the end of support for the game. The tweet stated, "After 2 INK-credible years of Splatoon 3, regular updates will come to a close. Don’t worry! Splatoween, Frosty Fest, Spring Fest, and Summer Nights will continue with some returning themes! Updates for weapon adjustments will be released as needed. Big Run, Eggstra Work, and Monthly Challenges will continue for the time being."

The theme of this final Splatfest revolved around Past, Present, and Future. The original game’s beloved characters Callie and Marie represented the Past, while Pearl and Marina from the second installment symbolized the Present. The Fresh Characters from the third game, Deep Cut, embodied the Future. In a surprising turn of events, Team Future did not score any points, finishing in last place. Team Present secured 370 points, while Team Past triumphed with a total of 500 points. It’s noteworthy that the outcomes of the final Splatfests from both the first and second games had a slight impact on their subsequent narratives. Therefore, if Splatoon 4 is on the horizon, fans are eager to see how Team Past’s victory might shape the storyline.

In addition to the event, the Japanese Nintendo channel shared an endearing video showcasing the Grand Festival, along with various pieces of artwork released during past Splatfests and their winners. It’s worth noting that while some themes might differ between Japan and Western releases, the creativity has been consistent throughout.

With Splatoon 3 now concluded, players may have to wait a while for the next installment, especially considering the development team also works on Animal Crossing. As speculation rises regarding an upcoming announcement for a new Switch console, it seems likely that any future Splatoon title could debut on this new platform.
