Mysterious Sonic the Hedgehog Character Gets a Name Three Years After Her First Appearance

After nearly three years of speculation, Sonic the Hedgehog fans can finally put a name to a character from Sega’s TailsTube web series: Professor Victoria. This character has been captivating the attention of dedicated fans ever since Sega’s promotional campaign for Sonic Frontiers in 2022.

To set the scene, SEGA and Sonic Team have introduced a Sonic the Hedgehog Vtuber web series called TailsTube, where Miles “Tails” Prower hosts a series of “livestreams” with his friends to shed light on some of the franchise’s enduring lore. The first episode was particularly revealing, explaining how Sonic’s world operates and featuring several human characters from Sonic Unleashed. Among them was a pink-haired woman who piqued the interest of fans, as she appeared to be a new character. Many believed she would be included in Frontiers, especially with the game’s release on the horizon and Sonic writer Ian Flynn teasing her significance. However, she did not make it into the game, but the latest TailsTube episode has finally given her a name

In the latest TailsTube episode, Tails is busy calling his friends to discuss their New Year’s resolutions. Observant Sonic fans have noticed a new book in the background of his scene, featuring the same pink-haired lady from the very first TailsTube episode. The book on Tails’ desk is named “The Mystery of History,” penned by Professor Victoria. This title suggests a connection to Professor Victoria’s intriguing character, and her name has significant ties to the Sonic universe.

Why is Professor Victoria So Important to Sonic’s Lore?

Shadow Generations includes a copy of Professor Gerald’s diary, which provides insights into his life and his role in creating Shadow the Hedgehog. Inside the journal, there’s a letter from the archival department to G.U.N. Commander Abraham Tower, expressing a wish to gather more information about Gerald and Maria Robotnik, signed by T. In the Japanese version, the signature is Torii. This connection took on added significance when the Sonic the Hedgehog 3 film showcased an Easter Egg featuring Professor Victoria on a billboard, referring to her as Professor Torii. However, these connections are still considered unconfirmed theories.

Professor Victoria has been playfully teased for three years, but fans still don’t know much about her. With the launch of Shadow Generations, one intriguing theory is that she could be Maria Robotnik’s sister. Her job as a historian suggests a connection to the G.U.N. military, particularly since she has shown interest in Maria and Gerald. Fans are speculating whether she might appear in the new Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds or the next main installment, especially since Sega has been dropping hints about her for quite some time.
