Ys Memoire: The Oath in Felghana features several boss battles, and the first one players will encounter is Dularn, The Creeping Shadow. Facing the initial boss can often be a significant challenge for players, and Dularn certainly delivers on that front.
He’s the first significant challenge that players encounter, and it’s completely normal for them to need several tries to defeat him. However, once players figure out the best strategy to take him on, the boss fight can be over quite quickly.
How to Beat Dularn in Ys Memoire: The Oath in Felghana
When the confrontation kicks off, Dularn will activate a round barrier that shields him from damage. Your focus will be on surviving his series of attacks until this barrier is lifted. After it disappears, players can unleash several strikes on Dularn. The amount of health he has will change depending on the difficulty setting you choose. If you’re finding Dularn to be a challenge, you can always backtrack, but remember that this boss is not optional and will need to be tackled at some point.
Dularn’s Sword Attacks
Dularn will call forth several swords to strike at the player. Each sword has its own unique attack style, making it crucial to understand the patterns in Dularn’s repertoire and how to dodge them effectively.
- Dularn will summon swords that move above him. These swords will then all strike directly towards the players.
- Dularn will create an X-shape using the swords. They will then home in on the player.
- Dularn will thrust a straight line of swords in the direction of the player.
Facing homing projectiles can make boss battles quite challenging. Fortunately, there’s a helpful strategy to manage them. When Dularn activates his barrier, the ideal tactic is to run in large circles around him. This allows players to have enough space to dodge the first two sword strikes. However, the placement of the summoned swords can still pose a threat. It’s wise to jump whenever these swords approach as an extra way to evade them. For the straight line of swords, players should leap just before they hit to stay safe.
Once Dularn’s barrier is down, he becomes susceptible to sword strikes. After taking a hit, he will teleport to safety. When he reappears, make sure to stay back, as he will regenerate his barrier and can harm players who are too close.
Dularn’s Wave Blasts
Dularn can unleash two distinct waves of projectiles. The first wave consists of a barrage of fireballs, while the second features a sweeping, large arc of energy.
Fireballs
Players can energize Dularn by navigating between the fireballs or by leaping over an incoming one. Similar to the swords, it’s advisable to mix dodging with jumping to avoid taking any hits.
Arching Slash
Dularn’s ultimate move is a massive blue slash. This attack is seamless, leaving no openings, so the only way to dodge it is by jumping over. These wave attacks occur just as players can start dealing damage to Dularn, so use them as a cue to charge in and strike.
