A year ago, Smite 2 was unveiled, promising fans a sequel to the hit third-person MOBA, crafted using Unreal Engine 5. This new version offers a more polished experience, with upgraded visuals and improved combat mechanics. It also boasts a new item shop that allows players to choose different items, regardless of their god’s classification. Just like in the original Smite, players will take on the roles of various gods from different cultures to compete in 5v5 matches and attack the rival team. Following a closed alpha phase, the game is now accessible to all players.

As of January 14, Smite 2’s open beta is now accessible on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC (via Epic Games Store and Steam), and Steam Deck, and players can download it for free! This latest update brings exciting new features, including Aladdin, a god crafted just for Smite 2. Aladdin can run along walls and has the ability to revive after death, thanks to his companion who grants him three wishes. Staying true to his legendary roots, Aladdin’s ultimate skill allows him to capture enemies with his lamp and force them into a one-on-one battle.

Smite 2’s Free-to-Play Open Beta Introduces New Content

  • The latest god developed for Smite 2 from the ground up, Aladdin
  • Fan-favorite 3v3 game mode “Joust”
  • A brand new Arthurian-themed map
  • Updates to the Conquest map
  • An alpha version of the Assault game mode
  • New optional enhancements to some gods in the form of Aspects
  • The game is available to download for free on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC via Steam and Epic Games Store, and Steam Deck.

The Smite 2 roster has expanded to include Geb, the Egyptian God of Earth; Mulan, the Chinese Ascendant Warrior; Agni from the Hindu Pantheon; and Ullr from the Norse Pantheon. Additionally, players can look forward to the return of the beloved Joust game mode from the original Smite, featuring intense 3v3 battles on a compact map. The Conquest map and Assault game mode will also be part of the open beta experience.

The creative director of Titan Forge Games mentioned that Smite 2 surpasses the original Smite in several aspects. They expressed gratitude to the player community for their valuable feedback during the closed alpha phase, and they assured fans that exciting new content is on the way for 2025.

While Smite 2 is accessible on nearly all major platforms, Nintendo Switch players will miss out on the experience. The developers previously mentioned their worries about the console’s performance with the game. That said, Titan Forge Games has shown interest in potentially bringing it to the next-generation Switch. In the meantime, fans of Smite can dive into the open beta of this exciting sequel.
