Rumor: The Mandalorian and Grogu Plot May Repeat a Clone Wars Storyline

It seems that some details about the plot of Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu have surfaced online. The leak hints at the comeback of a well-known villain, but fans are expressing their disappointment over the possibility that the storyline might echo elements from the animated Clone Wars film.

Coming soon to Disney’s lineup is The Mandalorian and Grogu, the next installment in the Star Wars saga. This film is part of a broader collection of projects that will culminate in Dave Filoni’s new Star Wars movie, which promises to tie together the stories from The Mandalorian, Ahsoka, The Book of Boba Fett, and Skeleton Crew. Although there are theories that the plot could center around Imperial loyalists aiming to restore the Galactic Empire, two recent reports indicate that the main storyline may parallel events from the animated feature Star Wars: The Clone Wars.

According to Kristian Harloff, the bounty hunter Embo, who featured in various episodes of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, will be the main villain in The Mandalorian and Grogu. Dave Filoni, the original voice of Embo, is set to return for this role. Harloff also suggests that the plot may center on Din Djarin and Grogu being hired to save Rotta the Hutt, played by Jeremy Allen White, while Embo has been contracted to take him out.

Bespin Bulletin confirmed Harloff’s findings, stating they received similar plot information. The online source suggested that Embo might be working for the Hutts, possibly the same ones featured in The Book of Boba Fett. However, Bespin Bulletin encountered mixed reports regarding who employed Din Djarin. Initially, they were informed that the Hutts were behind Din Djarin’s hiring, but later sources indicated it was the Republic. With Zeb reportedly aiding Din Djarin on his quest, Bespin Bulletin speculates that this could imply Din Djarin was indeed hired by the Republic, though they acknowledge this is just a theory.

The buzz about The Mandalorian and Grogu hasn’t been well-received by a lot of fans. Many are disappointed that the storyline bears a resemblance to the Clone Wars movie, where Rotta the Hutt, Jabba’s son, is kidnapped as part of a wicked plan by Count Dooku and Jabba’s uncle Ziro to frame the Jedi and create tension between Jabba and the Republic. A fan on Twitter expressed their wish that the rumored plot for Mandalorian and Grogu was just a side story, but Bespin Bulletin clarified that it isn’t.

In the cast of The Mandalorian and Grogu, Jonny Coyne plays a role in the Shadow Council, a faction of Imperial warlords focused on destabilizing the new Republic and seemingly aiming to position Thrawn as the successor to the Galactic Empire. This suggests that The Mandalorian and Grogu might tie into the ongoing Thrawn narrative, which seems to be a central theme across the “MandoVerse” series. However, if these speculations hold true, fans will need to be persuaded that another rescue mission involving Rotta is a tale worth exploring.

The release date for Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu in theaters is planned for May 22, 2026.
