A recent report from a reputable industry insider suggests that Halo: The Master Chief Collection could be making its way to the PS5 and Switch 2. The same source also claims that another significant Xbox franchise is likely to become available on multiple platforms soon.
In February 2024, Microsoft began a focused effort to expand its first-party games to other consoles. The initial four Xbox titles to make the leap to multi-platform were Pentiment, Hi-Fi Rush, Grounded, and Sea of Thieves, listed in that order. Some analysts also include As Dusk Falls in this lineup, as it was published by Xbox Game Studios and was an Xbox console exclusive for 20 months, despite not being developed by a Microsoft subsidiary. In October 2024, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 became available on platforms outside of Xbox, and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is set to join the ranks in spring 2025, when it will be released on the PS5.
According to NateTheHate, Microsoft’s efforts to expand across multiple platforms might soon encompass one of its most popular Xbox franchises, Halo. In a podcast episode aired on January 10, the seasoned leaker mentioned that he has “heard” rumors about the Halo: Master Chief Collection being ported to both the PS5 and the Switch 2. These updated versions of the six-game collection are expected to be released sometime in 2025, based on the same insider information.
Microsoft Flight Simulator Also Reportedly Coming to PS5 and Switch 2
According to NateTheHate, Microsoft Flight Simulator is likely to follow a similar path. While the insider didn’t specify which version would become multi-platform, it’s likely he was referring to the latest release, MFS 2024, which debuted on November 19. He suggested that, akin to Halo: The Master Chief Collection, the Microsoft Flight Simulator franchise could be making its way to PlayStation and Nintendo consoles in 2025.
‘Way More’ Xbox Games Are Reportedly Going Multi-Platform in 2025
Another seasoned Microsoft insider, Jez Corden, backed up this report by recently tweeting that “way more” Xbox games are on their way to the PS5 and Switch 2. This statement reflects Corden’s view that the age of lasting Xbox console exclusives has come to an end, a point he has consistently emphasized in recent months.
Another Microsoft franchise likely to reach additional platforms soon is Call of Duty. In an effort to finalize the Activision Blizzard acquisition, Microsoft made a commitment to deliver Call of Duty titles to Nintendo consoles for a decade, as revealed in late 2022. So far, this agreement hasn’t resulted in any games for the Switch, possibly because Microsoft is anticipating the launch of the Switch 2, which is expected to be much more powerful and better equipped for contemporary military shooters with realistic graphics compared to the original.
