Pokemon GO Event Adding Long-Requested Feature for a Limited Time

Great news for Pokemon GO fans! Niantic has announced that during the upcoming Fashion Week: Taken Over event, players will be able to use remote raid passes for Shadow Raids for the very first time. Since their introduction in 2023, Shadow Raids have gained popularity as a fantastic way to capture strong Pokemon.

With the arrival of 2025, Niantic has unveiled several updates for the widely enjoyed augmented reality game. This January, Pokemon GO players can celebrate the return of Ralts for the month’s second Community Day. As a new event approaches, fans are in for a treat as the developers have added a long-awaited feature to the game.

Trainers, get ready for an exciting twist during the Pokemon GO Fashion Week: Taken Over event! For the first time, you can use remote raid passes to join in on Shadow Raids. This event kicks off on Wednesday, January 15, at 12:00 a.m. and wraps up on Sunday, January 19, 2025, at 8:00 p.m. local time. Whether you’re raiding in person or from afar, you can take part in one-star, three-star, and five-star Shadow Raids. Plus, participating trainers will have the opportunity to catch Pokemon with enhanced IV stats!

Pokemon GO Temporarily Introducing Remote Raid Passes for Shadow Raids

Although this feature is only available during the Fashion Week: Taken Over event, players can participate in remote battles on the Shadow Ho-Oh Raid day, which takes place on January 19 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. local time. Trainers will enjoy a higher chance of capturing the elusive shiny shadow Ho-Oh and can teach it the charged attack Sacred Fire. Plus, players have the option to use a Charged TM to remove the move Frustration from their Shadow Pokemon.

Gamers are sure to be thrilled about using their remote raid passes in Shadow Raids, a feature that has been highly anticipated since its introduction in 2023. Just a heads up, once the Fashion Week: Taken Over event wraps up, players won’t be able to use remote raid passes in Shadow Raids anymore.

We can’t say for sure if Niantic will keep allowing remote raid passes for shadow raids in the future or if this is just a one-time thing. The Pokémon GO team has faced some backlash regarding Dynamax and Gigantamax battles, as they require many trainers to gather in person to take on the more formidable foes. It would certainly resonate with a lot of fans if this feature became a regular part of the game.
