Next Pokemon Presents Event May Be Disappointing for Switch 2

Fans of Pokemon looking forward to news about new titles for the Switch 2 might find themselves a bit let down by the upcoming Pokemon Presents scheduled for Thursday, February 27. Since the original Game Boy games debuted in the 90s, Pokemon has been a staple on Nintendo consoles, but it seems that the franchise’s arrival on the Switch 2 may take a bit more time than anticipated.

As of now, Nintendo has yet to make an official announcement regarding the Switch 2. However, the company has acknowledged that the next-generation console is indeed in the works. It will support backward compatibility with the original Switch and allow users to transfer their Nintendo accounts from the previous system. While we can expect a reveal within this fiscal year, most of the information available so far has come from leaks. These leaks suggest that the new console will be a more powerful and larger iteration of the original Switch.

While it’s a given that new Pokémon games will come to the Switch 2, fans should manage their expectations for the Pokémon Presents on February 27. Jeff Grubb has indicated that the showcase will highlight games being developed for the original Switch, not the new hardware. The good news is that all these titles will still be playable on the Switch 2 thanks to its backward compatibility.

Pokemon Presents Not Expected to Have News on Switch 2 Games

Get ready for the next Pokemon Presents, where we can expect updates on popular live-service games like Pokemon GO and the Pokemon Trading Card Game Pocket. Fans are particularly excited about Pokemon Legends: Z-A, which is rumored to be released for the original Switch sometime this year. The only glimpse we’ve had of Pokemon Legends: Z-A is a teaser trailer that showcased the Lumiose City environment, some returning Pokemon, and the comeback of Mega Evolutions, but details remain scarce. There are also rumors suggesting that another main series Pokemon game might be on the horizon this year.

There have been hints about a new main series Pokémon game coming out this year, separate from Pokémon Legends: Z-A and the Generation 10 titles. Many are speculating that we might see remakes of Pokémon Black and White or perhaps another set of Let’s Go games. If the leaks are accurate, these games are expected to launch on the original Switch rather than the Switch 2. If this turns out to be true, it’s quite probable that the first major Pokémon games designed solely for the Switch 2 will be the upcoming Generation 10 games.

Throughout its long history, the Pokemon franchise has often chosen to stick with older systems that have a bigger number of users. Remember when Pokemon Black 2 and White 2 came out for the original DS instead of the 3DS? It seems we might be in for a repeat of that scenario. As of now, there’s no official word on this, so fans should keep an eye on the Pokemon Presents event on February 27 for confirmation.
