Hideo Kojima Comments on Upcoming PlayStation Game Physint

Hideo Kojima has recently shared updates on several game projects at Kojima Productions, including the advancement of Physint, the PlayStation-exclusive follow-up to Metal Gear. This new title signifies Kojima and his team’s return to the stealth action genre after their foray into open-world gameplay with Death Stranding and the Xbox-exclusive horror title, OD. Fans of Metal Gear are particularly excited about this new project, as Kojima is renowned for his groundbreaking work in the stealth action genre.

Physint made its debut announcement during the PlayStation State of Play event in January 2024, right after the unveiling of a new trailer for Death Stranding 2, which is set to launch in 2025. This upcoming title is being touted as a “next-gen action espionage game,” although it is still in the early stages of pre-production. Hideo Kojima mentioned that serious development on Physint would kick off once Death Stranding 2 is released. Since it’s still in the early phases, no gameplay footage was presented during the State of Play, but Kojima expressed his desire to leverage the latest technology and talent for its creation. He also recently shared an update on the progress of this Metal Gear competitor.

In a recent tweet celebrating the new year, Kojima expressed his heartfelt gratitude to fans for their incredible support during 2024. He reflected on a hectic year for Kojima Productions, which included the unveiling of a new trailer for Death Stranding 2, ADR recording sessions, and various other projects. Additionally, he shared updates on Physint’s development, mentioning that the casting process had to be postponed because of the SAG-AFTRA video game strike in 2024-2025. Kojima is optimistic about resuming work on Physint in 2025.

Physint Development and Casting Delayed Due to SAG-AFTRA Strike

The SAG-AFTRA strike influenced the development of Kojima Productions’ Xbox-exclusive title, OD. According to Kojima, they had set up actor and environment scanning, but the strike during the second half of the year caused a pause in both scanning and filming activities. He also mentioned a few personal projects he pursued in 2024, like a new episode of HideoTube and preparations for the live-action version of Death Stranding.

Right now, there isn’t a lot of information available about Physint, but it’s evident that Kojima is aiming for a game that emphasizes cinematic storytelling and stealth gameplay. He has shared that his desire to create Physint was influenced by a health scare in 2020 and the persistent requests from fans for a new Metal Gear title. Physint is still a ways off, as Death Stranding 2 is in development and expected to be released this year. There are rumors among fans that it might not debut on the PlayStation 5 and could instead be intended for the future PlayStation 6.
