At Gamescom 2023, Nvidia announced a major update for Fortnite, revealing that the popular free-to-play battle royale game by Epic Games will soon support the advanced DLSS 3 technology. This marks another collaboration between Nvidia and Fortnite, as the game previously received DLSS 2 integration in 2020.
DLSS 3, which debuted with Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 4090 and 4080 graphics cards last year, is an AI-based technology that significantly improves gaming performance. It can boost frame rates in supported games by up to four times compared to earlier levels. However, DLSS 3 remains exclusive to Nvidia’s RTX 40 series cards, meaning players using the RTX 20 and 30 series won’t have access to this performance enhancement in Fortnite.
Beyond Fortnite, Nvidia’s DLSS 3 is set to enhance the performance of other major titles, including Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, PayDay 3, Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty, and Alan Wake 2. Additionally, Cyberpunk 2077 and Alan Wake 2, along with Portal RTX, will soon incorporate DLSS 3.5, the latest version of the technology.
One of the standout features of DLSS 3.5 is Ray Reconstruction, a tool designed to improve ray-traced visuals for RTX 40 series GPUs. Instead of relying on traditional denoisers, this feature uses AI-driven algorithms trained on Nvidia’s supercomputers to generate superior-quality pixels, resulting in enhanced visual fidelity for gamers.
