Speculations Surrounding GTA 6: Delay or Not?
As anticipation for Grand Theft Auto 6 (GTA 6) continues to build, speculation surrounding potential delays has surfaced once again. A former developer from Rockstar Games has suggested that any official announcement regarding a delay might not occur until next year.
Earlier this month, rumors emerged hinting at a possible postponement for GTA 6. However, Jason Schreier from Bloomberg, who is well-respected for his reliable insider information, stated after consulting with six Rockstar employees that, as of now, there is no indication of a delay. Nonetheless, he cautioned that these developers have not been informed of any delay, suggesting that it remains a possibility. Given the prolonged discussion of delays, many gamers eagerly awaiting what is likely the most anticipated sequel of the decade remain anxious about the game’s release.
Obbe Vermeij, the former technical director at Rockstar North, who contributed to several titles in the Grand Theft Auto series, offered valuable insights regarding the timeline for any announcements. He recounted that the decision to delay GTA 4 was made approximately four months ahead of its initial release date. Vermeij emphasized that determining a delay for GTA 6 would not be feasible until around May next year.
In an insightful tweet, Vermeij remarked, “The decision to delay GTA IV was made four months or so before the original release date. Any further and it’s hard to make the call. Rockstar is probably not in a position to determine whether they will hit 2025 until May-ish.” He also noted that GTA 6 is expected to have a lengthy sales period, projecting it may sell well for over a decade. He reassured that the developers would wait until they are completely satisfied with the game before releasing it, regardless of any statements made in promotional materials.
Given the monumental success of GTA 5, which ranks as the second best-selling video game in history, it is reasonable to believe that GTA 6 could eclipse those sales figures over the next ten years. However, Vermeij was careful to clarify that he possesses “no inside info” and had not communicated with anyone at Rockstar, advising listeners not to interpret his comments as definitive.
Since the inaugural trailer for GTA 6 debuted last December, there has been little news about the game. Vermeij had previously indicated in July that fans should not expect the upcoming title to be "wildly different” from its predecessor, leaving many players curious yet cautiously optimistic about the progression of this next installment in the iconic series.
In conclusion, while the prospect of delays looms over GTA 6, the final decision is still pending, and for dedicated fans, the wait continues.
