As anticipation builds for the third installment of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake series, it remains uncertain how the story will conclude. Recent comments from the game’s producer have not illuminated the direction the game is headed, leaving fans eager for clarity.

When Final Fantasy 7 Remake debuted in 2020, players who had avoided the spoilers in Square Enix’s marketing came to recognize that the game was not merely a traditional remake. Instead, it creatively reinterpreted the original narrative, making various alterations—some subtle, others more significant. This year, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth continued this trend, introducing changes of its own while retaining certain familiar elements.

Due to the inconsistent nature of these changes, many fans are left pondering how the yet-to-be-named third installment will evolve the story. In a recent interview with Anime News Network, producer Yoshinori Kitase addressed these queries, shedding some light on the extent of the narrative modifications.

Kitase acknowledged the diversity of fan speculation surrounding the story’s evolution from the original. "We are aware of the various theories fans have, questioning how much the story will deviate," he stated. "However, it’s essential to clarify that we have always kept the original in our thoughts, and we aim to maintain a storyline that honors the fans of the classic game. Yet, it has been 27 years since Final Fantasy VII first launched."

He further explained that the development team believes there are new opportunities within the remake that can offer players a fresh sense of joy and satisfaction. "What these opportunities will manifest as is something we hope players will experience in the near future," he added.

In a separate interview last month, Kitase made a bold statement, declaring that the third installment would be "exactly what fans are looking for." This assertion raises expectations for the project, and fans are hopeful that Square Enix will begin teasing details soon.

With the release of the third part on the horizon, many are eager to see how the evolving narrative will blend nostalgia with innovation, securing its place in the hearts of both longtime fans and newcomers alike. As development progresses, the gaming community anxiously awaits more revelations from Square Enix about this iconic series.
