Dragon Quest 10 Coming to an Unexpected New Platform

Great news from Square Enix! Dragon Quest 10 Offline is now ready for download on mobile devices, but it’s exclusively for Japan at the moment. The game is also being offered at a discounted price for a limited time. Sadly, it looks like fans in the West will have to wait a while longer for a potential release.

Dragon Quest 10 first hit the shelves in Japan in 2012 and is unique as the only MMORPG in the iconic series. Despite being available on multiple consoles over time, it has not been released in the West, making it one of the rare mainline titles to remain exclusive. Since its launch, fan enthusiasm has been high, and although the development team has shown interest in bringing the game to a wider audience, it seems unlikely to happen. A new mobile version has just been unveiled, but fans in the West should keep their hopes in check.

Gematsu has reported that Dragon Quest 10 Offline, along with its expansion The Sleeping Hero and the Guiding Ally, is now available for iOS and Android users in Japan. This single-player offline version of the multiplayer game was initially released in Japan in 2022 before reaching other parts of Asia. Currently, the mobile base game is priced at a discounted 1,960 yen ($13), but this will increase to 2,800 yen ($18) on January 28. The expansion is available for a limited time at 1,920 yen ($12) until that date. The offline version offers a more condensed map and a simplified visual style compared to the original game.

Dragon Quest 10 Offline Gets Mobile Release in Japan

Dragon Quest 10 first debuted on the Nintendo Wii and was later adapted for the Wii U, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo 3DS, and PC. The game is known for its real-time combat and intricate job system, which have garnered positive reviews for their gameplay and user-friendliness for those new to MMORPGs. In December 2024, a fan-made translation of the game’s story cutscenes was launched, demonstrating that interest remained strong even after a decade of quiet from Square Enix. While the Dragon Quest franchise celebrated its 35th anniversary in 2021, fans were left disheartened by the lack of news regarding a Western release for Dragon Quest 10.

In Japan, the Dragon Quest series is a beloved phenomenon, as evidenced by the 2017 release of Dragon Quest 11: Echoes of an Elusive Age, which flew off the shelves with two million physical copies sold in just 48 hours. Fans are eagerly anticipating Dragon Quest 12: The Flames of Fate, which will be the first mainline game to launch globally at the same time, though the release date is still under wraps.
