Players of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 are urging Treyarch Studios to reintroduce Warpaint, a beloved cosmetic element that has appeared in just three titles: Black Ops, Black Ops 4, and WW2. As operator skins and weapon blueprints have become common in the franchise, fans feel it’s the perfect moment to bring back this classic feature.
Since Infinity Ward revitalized the Modern Warfare series in 2019, the introduction of extravagant operator skins and distinctive weapon blueprints has sparked debate within the Call of Duty community. Each year, Activision rolls out over-the-top cosmetic items that some players feel detract from the essence of Call of Duty. Conversely, others contend that the franchise has never aimed for realism, so the addition of colorful operator skins doesn’t really matter. With the operator skins in Black Ops 6 pushing boundaries even further, the divide among players has widened, leading some to suggest that a different kind of cosmetic item should take the spotlight.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Players Want Warpaint to Return
In a recent Reddit post, user Little_Pomelo2573 called on Treyarch to reintroduce Warpaint, but with a twist. They believe that, unlike many other cosmetic items in Black Ops 6, Warpaint should be something players can “earn, not buy.” This would allow players to unlock different face paints through in-game challenges or by reaching certain levels. However, not everyone shares this optimism. Another Redditor, Rgraff58, commented that it will “never happen as long as greed exists,” while Fraegtgaortd expressed a desire to see it return, but doubts it will “ever happen again.”
After being featured in just two Black Ops games, face camouflage returned in Call of Duty: WW2, allowing players to customize their characters with a variety of face camo styles. In the 2017 title from Sledgehammer Games, players had the option to purchase numerous cosmetic items, including helmets and face camos, each with different rarity levels and available for Armory Credits. Unfortunately, smaller customization options like face paint have been absent from the series since then, but it’s clear that players are hoping to see them again.
The return of face camo in Call of Duty seems unlikely, but there’s a lot of exciting new content on the horizon for both Call of Duty: Warzone and Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 as Season 2 kicks off on January 28. With Season 1 coming to a close, Activision is set to introduce a brand-new Battle Pass packed with a variety of new cosmetic items and consumables, and we can expect full details to drop about a week before the season starts.
