Ubisoft has announced that Assassin’s Creed Shadows will now be released on March 20, 2025. The delay comes as the publisher aims to integrate fan feedback into the game. Initially set for a November launch, the release has been postponed by three months, meaning players will have to wait an additional five weeks beyond the previously scheduled date of February 14.
In late September 2024, Ubisoft announced the first significant delay for Assassin’s Creed Shadows, pushing its release from the planned November 15 date to February 14, 2025. The company didn’t share many details in their official statement, only mentioning that the three-month postponement was “in the best interest of the game.”
The first delay was linked to development challenges with Assassin’s Creed Shadows, particularly the concerns from Ubisoft Quebec about maintaining cultural and historical accuracy. However, this new delay is focused on incorporating feedback from the gaming community. In a statement on the official Assassin’s Creed website, Marc-Alexis Coté, the franchise’s vice president executive producer, emphasized Ubisoft’s commitment to delivering a high-quality, immersive experience through ongoing conversations with players and development teams. Both delays have one thing in common: Coté mentioned that this new delay, like the previous one, will allow the team more time to “refine and polish” the game ahead of its release.
When Will Assassin’s Creed Shadows Be Released?
In September, when it was revealed that the game would be delayed from its initial release date, Ubisoft reached out to fans who might be disappointed by offering refunds for Assassin’s Creed Shadows pre-orders. They also announced that anyone who pre-orders the game in the future would receive complimentary access to the first planned expansion. As of now, Ubisoft hasn’t mentioned whether they will provide similar incentives this time, but a five-week delay is expected to create less frustration among players compared to a three-month setback.
The additional postponement may be linked to the internal practices investigation at Ubisoft, which was first disclosed just over three months ago. Despite being one of the top-grossing publishers in the gaming industry, Ubisoft has encountered disappointing sales that have led to record losses in the 2023 fiscal year. Following this news, the investigation was announced, with a significant aim of making their games more “player-centric.” Delaying Assassin’s Creed Shadows for another month to integrate fan feedback could be a part of this strategy.
